Danny Rohl has compared Leicester City to one of the biggest clubs in the world ahead of their trip to Sheffield Wednesday.
Speaking to Yorkshire Live, the Owls manager suggested that his team could cause an upset against the Foxes, like a few ‘small’ teams did during his time with Bayern Munich.
Danny Rohl still only has one win under his belt since arriving at Hillsborough last month, enduring five defeats elsewhere.
While things have began to look more positive under the German, Sheffield Wednesday are now set for arguably their toughest test yet as they host Leicester City this evening.
The Foxes currently sit three points clear at the top of the Championship, after winning 14 of their 17 games so far this season.
Enzo Maresca‘s side have netted 31 goals so far and have conceded the least amount of goals in the second tier by far (10).
While Sheffield Wednesday are preparing to come up against a number of Premier League quality players in the likes of Ricardo Pereira, Wilfred Ndidi and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Rohl has claimed they shouldn’t be written off.
“I think nobody expects anything from us against them,” he told Yorkshire Live.
“But in my past there’s always a point where you can take something (off the top sides) When I was part of Bayern Munich on a few occasions a ‘small’ team came and took something.
“I have to make my players ready for this game. We’ll get the plan ready and see what we can do against them. I will select my players and I’m brave enough to go up against Leicester because in football you can beat the top of the table sides as long as you do all the right things.”
Can Sheffield Wednesday cause an upset tonight?
Leicester City are one of the strongest teams the Championship has seen for a very long while and it certainly wouldn’t be easy to claim a single point off them this evening.
Sheffield Wednesday’s only real advantage is that they will have the home crowd behind them, and an evening atmosphere is always capable of getting the players very pumped up.
All three of Leicester’s defeats this season have ended 1-0 and have ended with the Foxes dominating in possession. However, they only managed to get a total of six shots on target in total across the three games.
If Sheffield Wednesday’s backline can be at their very best, then their best hope is leaving Leicester frustrated and eventually taking advantage of any potential counter attack.
It will be a huge surprise if the Owls can take anything from this game, but they shouldn’t go into it assuming the worst.
