Sheffield Wednesday gave a decent account of themselves during a 2-1 defeat away at Birmingham City yesterday.
Sheffield Wednesday are definitely showing signs of improvement under Danny Rohl. But results continue to go against them with Birmingham City coming from behind to win 2-1 yesterday.
George Byers opened the scoring for the Owls but Blues levelled soon after, and scored the winner in the second half, with Wednesday now 10 points adrift at the bottom of the Championship table.
The Owls remain with just one win to their name after 17 Championship games this season, with just three draws from those 17 and only eight goals scored.
Darren Moore‘s Huddersfield Town remain four points above Rotherham United in 22nd after drawing vs Southampton yesterday.
‘Same old story’
Yesterday’s performance wasn’t bad at all.
Many will think that Sheffield Wednesday deserved something from the game; a point, if not all three. But individual mistakes eventually led to the defeat.
Goalkeeper Cameron Dawson has come under criticism for Birmingham City’s first goal whilst the second was just a calamity of defending and marking from the Owls.
And after the game, journalist Joe Crann gave his verdict. He posted on X:

It’s a question that maybe doesn’t have an answer.
Sheffield Wednesday’s only win came against fellow struggles Rotherham United and so the Owls certainly need to rely on games against those out of form; but Birmingham City went into this game without a win in five and so yesterday’s game was a bit of a must-win.
The Owls’ away form is poor and with every passing fixture they look more and more destined for the drop, and there seems to be very little that Rohl can do about it.
He’s implementing his style of play and we saw a lot of positives from Sheffield Wednesday yesterday.
But like Crann says, individual errors continue to be the flaw for Wednesday and eradicating them may be tricky.
The debate over Dawson or Devis Vasquez rumbles on and many are calling for Vasquez to come back into the XI after another questionable performance from Dawson.
Though who Rohl opts for against league leaders Leicester City next time out, and what other changes he might make, remain to be seen.
