Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Röhl has opened up on the penalty that was overturned on against Watford.
The Owls made the trip to Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon in Röhl’ first game as manager since his appointment over the international break. They went on to lose 1-0 though, due to an 82nd minute strike from Yaser Asprilla.
Wednesday were given a penalty by the referee early in in the second half, when Jamal Lewis appeared to trip Anthony Musaba inside the box. This was then overturned by the linesman.
Röhl has now had his say on the decision.
Manager’s reaction to penalty incident
The German boss told Yorkshire Live that he had not seen the incident, speaking to them after the game.
“No. Until now I haven’t seen the video clip again. For me when the ref says it is a penalty then it’s a penalty. But today was new for me, and a new thing. It’s a pity because it would have been a great opportunity to maybe go in front and maybe the match is then different.
“Maybe if we get it and go ahead the opponent has to go forward and we can counter-attack. I said to my coaches I had a feeling in the air that we could take something today but in the end it’s a loss and it’s disappointing. I’m sure if we play like this going forward we will take points in the future.”

Without a doubt, you can see why the referee gave it, as in real time Musaba does appear to be tripped.
It is a shame for Röhl and the team that it was not given, as giving Wednesday an early lead could have changed the game.
Had they been given the penalty and scored it, it would have only been the third time this season the Owls have taken the lead in the Championship.
Röhl will now to have to wait to pick up his first points as manager of Wednesday, with his next opportunity to do so being away at Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday evening.
