Sheffield Wednesday have made history after beating Sunderland to secure their Championship safety.
Sheffield Wednesday have achieved one of the great all-time escapes in football.
The Owls were completely written off and took a huge gamble appointing the untested Danny Rohl back in October.
But seven months later and Sheffield Wednesday have officially beaten the drop, coming at the expense of Huddersfield Town and Birmingham City who’ve both been relegated on the final day.
Wednesday beat Sunderland 2-0 thanks to goals from stalwarts Liam Palmer and Josh Windass.
And in securing the win and their Championship safety, Sheffield Wednesday have written themselves into the league’s history books.

Sheffield Wednesday started the season woefully under Xisco Munoz.
He left without a single win to his name in 12 games as manager, whereas Rohl ends this season with 15 in the Championship.
Sheffield Wednesday finish the season in 20th after being rooted to the foot of the table throughout much of the season, with a three-point gap to themselves and Birmingham City in 22nd.
The Owls didn’t win a single league game until they beat Rotherham United 2-0 in October, now becoming the first-ever Championship team to beat the drop after going winless in their first 13 league fixtures.
What now for Sheffield Wednesday
Now, arguably, the real hard work starts for Sheffield Wednesday.
Now the club has an extremely valuable asset in Rohl and momentum to move onwards and upwards, following several years of stalling.
Dejphon Chansiri and Rohl have plenty to do this summer and if Rohl doesn’t get his way, he may (and rightly so) listen to other offers.
And there’ll surely be plenty of interest in Rohl following this incredible turnaround.
Sunderland are one of the teams linked and their fans may be praying that he takes charge this summer after an impressive away performance on Saturday.
But it looks like Rohl will make a real go of it with Sheffield Wednesday, who can finally take a moment to breath after the turmoil of this season.
