Danny Rohl could opt to take a wildcard pick when selecting his replacement for Callum Paterson in Sheffield Wednesday’s next game against Birmingham City.
According to Joe Crann of The Star, the German could potentially consider playing Anthony Musaba out of position to fill the gap.
Calum Paterson‘s versatility has come in very handy during his three years at Hillsborough, with the 29-year-old featuring heavily at wing-back this season.
Danny Rohl clearly has a lot of trust in the experienced star, having started him in that role in each of the last three games.
However, Paterson’s yellow card against Millwall means that he will now be suspended for the trip to St. Andrew’s next week.
Pato has been a very useful inclusion in Rohl’s squad and has adapted to the way he wants to play very well. However, his absence means the 34-year-old now has a big decision to make.
While Joe Crann has claimed that Rohl could just turn to someone like Pol Valentin, Liam Palmer or Dominic Iorfa, he has also suggested he could just ‘go rogue’ and pick someone based on their training during the break.
He wrote: “Röhl could, of course, go rogue and pick somebody different to take on the position depending on what he sees in training over the international break.
“Anthony Musaba, though a big threat going forward, could be a wildcard option given his ability to get up the pitch – however his defensive output is certainly limited.”

Anthony Musaba has looked very bright in his appearances so far this season, with Danny Rohl playing him on the wing or in a more attacking midfield position.
Playing him further back would surely be a mistake though, given the amount of tracking back he would have to do.
We know Rohl isn’t afraid to make changes, but he would be much safer bringing in someone like Liam Palmer to keep the backline organised and avoid any unwanted errors.
Anthony Musaba is much more effective further forward and we don’t to nullify the attacking threat that he can bring to the game.
