Sheffield Wednesday defender Di’Shon Bernard wants to use a Premier League team as inspiration. The Owls sit bottom of the Championship after a winless eight games.
The centre-back joined the club in the summer after leaving Manchester United. He has made six appearances for Wednesday so far and looks a useful addition.
It’s a case of dire straits for Wednesday though. The Owls need to get their season moving and it’s been quite a transformation for the club who celebrated at Wembley just 120 days ago.
Bernard wants Wednesday to use Premier League club for inspiration
The talented youngster has mentioned Nottingham Forest as the team that Wednesday should look towards. The Reds were bottom of the Championship in 2021/22 after eight games but won promotion.
He told The Star: “I remember when I was at Hull, Nottingham Forest were in the same position and they ended up getting promoted. We know it’s a long season, we need to keep our heads. We know the wins will come.”
Can Wednesday rediscover their form?
It’s going to be hard. Using Forest as inspiration does have some flaws too given that they sacked their manager before things got better and that could be bad news for Xisco Munoz.
Furthermore, Forest had a decent squad. Steve Cooper inherited a team brimming with Championship quality and that sort of experience is perhaps one thing that Wednesday are lacking.
Bernard has looked like a decent signing, however. Munoz would be wise to persist with him going forward and hopefully, the club’s fortunes can change for the better in the coming weeks.
