Former Sheffield Wednesday man Carlton Palmer has suggested that Xisco Munoz could have two or three games to save his job.
Sheffield Wednesday are in last place of the Championship table after the opening eight games of the 2023/24 season.
The Owls are the only team in the second tier without a win to their name, with just two points on the board after a 3-0 defeat at Swansea City last weekend.
And that defeat has really piled the pressure on Munoz. The Spaniard is facing criticism from the Wednesday fanbase for the results and his often questionable team selection, and it looks like a managerial change could be in the offing.
And former Wednesday man Palmer has spoken out on Munoz’s tenure and also on owner Dejphon Chansiri, and his feud with former boss Darren Moore.
Palmer told Football League World:
“Xisco, I’ve been told by a lot of people, is a lovely man. He of course guided Watford to the Premier League.
“But I’m being told that it’s more to do with the quality of the players at his disposal, not to do with how good he is as a coach. You don’t want to panic, but how long do you give him?
“I’d suggest he has maybe two or three more games before the chairman has to consider a change. Karma might come to bite Chansiri on the backside with Darren Moore going to Huddersfield – and I believe in karma.”
Munoz fighting for his Sheffield Wednesday future
Munoz must be in the firing line now.
It’s been a dreadful start for Wednesday and whilst everyone will agree that it’s a very difficult job, Munoz certainly isn’t helping himself.
And Chansiri may well be ruing Moore’s exit earlier in the summer. He’s now at Huddersfield Town and so there’s no chance of him coming back, and who might come in should Munoz get the sack remains to be seen.
It could be very difficult for Chansiri to find a decent manager, but for now, the focus will be on Friday night’s game v Sunderland in the Championship, which promises to be another very difficult outing.
