According to Sky Sports’ Live Transfer Blog, Sam Hutchinson is currently undergoing a medical at Sheffield Wednesday.

This is a move that was touted earlier this week, and despite there being a little bit of backlash to this news from the fanbase, it looks as though the Owls are moving forward with re-signing Hutchinson.

Usually, we’d give a bit of a breakdown of what to expect from a new signing, but after Hutchinson spent six years at Wednesday, Owls supporters know exactly what to expect from the former Chelsea academy player.

He’s a tough tackler who can either play in the defence or in the midfield, and perhaps the most apt description of him came from his former boss at Nottingham Forest who once described him as ‘John Terry-esque’.

Of course, the big question now is whether or not he’s up to the task. We all know that Hutchinson has the talent on his day, after all, he was a key player in Carlos Carvalhal’s side that enjoyed two playoff campaigns, but he has blown hot and cold in recent years.

He’s not played all that much football lately, being frozen out of the Wednesday squad by Garry Monk last year, before moving to Cyprus to play for Pafos, a spell that didn’t see him play much football during the short time he was there.

Hutchinson’s return will certainly give the new Wednesday manager more options when it comes to selecting his starting XI, and we’re excited to see what he can bring during his second spell at Hillsborough.
