Marvin Johnson has taken another step towards a Sheffield Wednesday return. The 32-year-old has not featured this season but the appointment of Danny Rohl could hand the player a lifeline.
It’s been a pretty sad situation with Johnson. He was integral under Darren Moore last season as the Owls won promotion to the Championship, with the left-footer claiming 14 assists.
The boss who departed in the summer was a huge fan of Johnson. He deployed him largely as a left-sided wing-back and he played in the League One Play-Off Final when Wednesday defeated Barnsley.

There is work to do for Johnson before he can truly impress Rohl. It would seem as though he’s undergoing some fitness tests before he can join in with the main group at Middlewood.
Wednesday’s official Twitter account have been accepting requests from fans regarding who they’d like to see photographed in training. Now, they’ve shared an image of Johnson back in the Owls’ training gear.
However, it doesn’t show Johnson training with the main group. Instead, it looks like he’s being put through his paces by the Head of Sports Science and it remains to be seen what the future holds.
Wednesday have decision to make ahead of weekend
It’s not just as easy as simply throwing Johnson into the squad for this weekend’s game. If the Owls decide to do that it would see them max out their 25-man squad and there will be no room for manoeuvre before January.
Rohl is likely to take stock of his squad between now and the transfer window. Given the somewhat scattergun approach to transfers in the summer, however, it remains to be seen whether he might want to keep one space free.
Johnson would be a smart pick for the 25th spot, however. The fans seemingly want him to be involved and he would bring the team more balanced given that he’s got a wicked left foot and can play anywhere down the left-hand side.
