Sheffield Wednesday wanted to sign Chiedozie Ogbene when Darren Moore was still in charge of the club. Now, he’s top of the pops when it comes to one Premier League compilation that has been announced.
Moore had put together an extensive list of players following promotion to the Championship. He needn’t have bothered though and the club parted ways with him in June much to the dismay of the fan base.
Ogbene was one player who was on the list of targets for Wednesday before Moore departed. In the end, the Owls were powerless to prevent the player from pursuing a Premier League dream and signing for Luton Town instead.
Wednesday target now starring in the Premier League
Wednesday target Ogbene scored his first Luton goal last month in a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest. He’s now also considered the quickest player in the Premier League this season.
Some statistics from the Premier League have showcased the quickest sprint speeds this season so far. Ogbene has been clocked at 36.93 km/h during a game against Fulham.
The Republic of Ireland international is currently ahead of Pedro Neto and Dominik Szoboszlai and he’s showcased Wednesday fans perhaps what they’re missing.
Ogbene would have been a quality signing for Wednesday
This was one of the few exciting links that Wednesday were touted with a move for in the summer. In the end, the club ended up appointing Xisco Munoz as manager and ended up with a mash-up of random signings.
Ogbene would have been class at Wednesday. Ultimately, however, he was never going to sign for the club once the Premier League came calling for the 26-year-old.
The player spent four years with Rotherham United and was a star for them in the Championship. He helped the club win promotion to the Championship and then defied the odds to stay there.
Signing Ogbene was perhaps nothing more than a pipedream for Wednesday sadly. There is a sense, however, that had Moore remained at Hillsborough, the club would signed better quality in the summer.
