Sheffield Wednesday beat Blackburn Rovers 3-1 on Saturday, with Liam Palmer stepping in from the cold.
The Owls claimed a huge victory and just their second victory of the campaign at Hillsborough.
Goals from Bailey Cadamarteri, Marvin Johnson and Josh Windass ensured a big three points for Wednesday.
It was perhaps the performance of Palmer that caught the eye for Wednesday though, with the player summonsed early in the contest.
He stepped off the bench after just three minutes and delivered a timely performance that showcased just how important he can be.
Palmer stars during latest Wednesday appearance
After coming on for 28 minutes of the 1-1 draw over Leicester, Wednesday defender Palmer might have been disappointed to find himself on the bench on Saturday.
However, he wasn’t on there for long with Palmer getting the nod when Dominic Iorfa picked up an early injury.
It’s been a frustrating time of things for Palmer at the club considers his own.
He’s featured just twice under Danny Rohl and as the vice-captain that simply won’t do.
His performance was fantastic during his time on the pitch and Rohl will have been given some food for thought.
Palmer made four tackles for Wednesday, according to Who Scored also completed 19 passes during his time on the pitch.
The player came on as a right-back and he must be pretty satisfied with how things went for him.
Palmer still has a part to play
The 32-year-old isn’t a spring chicken these days but he’s still more than capable of playing in the Championship.
Having supported the club as a boy, he will be quite devastated not to have been featuring in the team of late.
Palmer can have a part to play and he might be hoping that he gets the chance should Iorfa miss next week’s game.
Rohl has given a small update on Iorfa after claiming he was ‘scared’ when he pulled up early in Saturday’s game.
However, in Palmer, Wednesday had a player who showcased the level of determination that Rohl looks for in his players.
The player will now want to ensure he’s selected next week and he will be looking to impress on the training ground.
Palmer’s versatility should help him get more minutes this season for Wednesday.
On Saturday, he operated as a right-back but last season he was so often deployed as a right-sided central defender.
