Sheffield Wednesday head to QPR in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

A few weeks back, Sheffield Wednesday against QPR would’ve been a huge game at the foot of the Championship table.

And it still is a game that holds a lot of weight. But with the R’s now six points clear of the drop zone after back-to-back wins over Easter, it feels like less of a winnable one for Wednesday.

The Owls are winless in four now and arguably put in one of their worst performances under Danny Rohl last time out.

Sheffield Wednesday lost 2-0 at Middlesbrough on Easter Monday following a 1-1 draw at home to Swansea City on Good Friday.

Wednesday remain in 23rd place of the table and are now two points adrift.

The Owls go up against one of Neil Warnock’s many former clubs this weekend.

A former Sheffield United boss as well, Warnock guided both the R’s and the Blades to promotion from the second tier during his career.

Most recently, Warnock was in charge of Scottish top flight side Aberdeen for a brief period.

But the 75-year-old was on talkSPORT this morning where he was discussing the Championship.

And Warnock touched upon Sheffield Wednesday and their fortunes in the second tier, saying:

“It’s going to go down right to the wire. I wouldn’t even write Sheffield Wednesday off. They have a disaster game and then they’ll win two games, so I wouldn’t write them off.”

Sheffield Wednesday now have six games left; QPR, then home games vs Norwich City and Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers away, West Brom at home, and then a trip to Sunderland on the final day of the season.

The ‘disaster game’ Warnock talks about must be QPR, though what he means by that remains to be seen.

It’s certainly a crunch match and defeat for either side would surely be a disaster, which is what Warnock might be alluding to.

Then Wednesday winning two games, as things stand, seems very hopeful.

After QPR, the Owls have two home games coming up but with Norwich City in 6th and looking to cement their place in the play-offs, they’ll surely view a game against a misfiring Wednesday as a very winnable one.

Stoke at home may be winnable and then Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland could also give Sheffield Wednesday chances to get points on the board.

West Brom is another difficult test.

Right now, it’s not looking good for Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday.

But they’ve shown spirit and quality in the recent past and if they can get back to winning ways this weekend, the rest of their season will have a completely different outlook.
