Sheffield Wednesday favourite Marvin Johnson was subject of transfer interest during the January window.
For both Johnson and Sheffield Wednesday, it’s been an eventful season.
Sheffield Wednesday started the season in abysmal form under Xisco Munoz, going winless in their opening 12 games of the season and looking destined for relegation.
And Johnson didn’t feature until Danny Rohl arrived at the club in October.
The 33-year-old full-back was bizarrely exiled by Munoz but immediately brought back into the picture by Rohl, who’s since been rewarded for showing faith in Johnson.
Johnson has featured 21 times in the Championship this season with three goals and four assists to his name.

In January, Johnson became a rather surprise target for Ipswich Town.
It was rumoured that Ipswich Town bid for Johnson and that Sheffield Wednesday had knocked back their offer.
Now talking to BBC Radio Sheffield ahead of the Championship clash vs Leeds United on Friday night, Johnson said of that January Ipswich Town:
“We [Johnson and Rohl] spoke a lot over that period. The gaffer just said ‘it’s a bonus’, ‘it’s positive’, he said ‘it’s positive on both of our sides’. He said ‘it shows we’re doing something right’. Which obviously was great to see. But he’s straight-forward. He sets the standards. You can’t fall below the standards, otherwise you don’t play and someone else comes in and steps up to the plate.”
Question marks over what lies ahead for Johnson at Sheffield Wednesday
Johnson’s contract length is not known, but it’s very possible that he’s one of the many out of contract in the summer.
And if that’s the case then it could prove to be a pivotal summer in Johnson’s career; if Sheffield Wednesday are relegated then he’ll no doubt hold out for a Championship move, but few clubs might be willing to gamble on a 33-year-old.
Despite his age though, Johnson is showing no signs of slowing down, arguably putting in one of his best seasons this time round.
He’s everything a manager would want in a modern full-back; he’s fit and fast and he’s proving to be a real creative outlet in the left wing-back position.
Like what Rohl said to Johnson in January, interest is a credit to him and his attributes as a player, and to come back from that exile and play such a key role for the Owls is impressive.
Ipswich may well return for him whether or not he becomes a free agent, though that might depend on whether or not Ipswich are promoted.
But Johnson will be fully focused on guiding Sheffield Wednesday to safety right now.
