AFC Wimbledon manager Johnnie Jackson has claimed that he’s excited by a recent Sheffield Wednesday decision. The Owls appointed Danny Rohl to replace Xisco Munoz last week and it’s been met with some intrigue.
Wednesday are winless in 11 Championship matches this season, collecting just three points during 2023/24. The challenge facing Rohl is a big one, given that it’s the first time his stepped into management.
Jackson is enjoying a decent campaign in charge of Wimbledon. They sit eighth in the division and will be dreaming of a tilt at the play-offs this season.
Jackson thinks Wednesday might have hit the jackpot
Talk turned to Wednesday on this week’s edition of ‘What the EFL?! Podcast’. He has raved about the Owls for their decision to appoint Rohl; although he explains that things can’t possibly get any worse.
Jackson claimed: “He has got a real job on his hands looking at what I’ve seen so far from Sheffield Wednesday and that league. They are really up against it in terms of climbing the table. He is going into a team that can’t really get any worse.
“I think it’s quite exciting; I love to see young managers get opportunities so I think it’s an exciting one for Sheffield Wednesday but it comes with the unknown that he has got no body of work as a manager to look back on.
“He joins a club in a really tricky position in the league, but he has got a lot of time to work and to try and pull them away from the bottom. There are 30 plus games to go so there’s plenty of time.”
Jackson talks sense about Wednesday appointing Rohl
Plenty of Wednesday fans wanted Neil Warnock to come in and try and revive the team’s fortunes. Thankfully Dejphon Chansiri didn’t listen to those demands and instead opted for Rohl.
With the German manager now at the helm, Wednesday have a bright young coach with a point to prove. He will hope to make a name for himself at Hillsborough and lead the Owls away from the bottom.
Young manages need to start somewhere and as Jackson says, things can’t possibly get any worse. Rohl will take charge of his first game against Watford at the weekend and it will be exciting to see how the team line up.
