Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has welcomed Marvin Johnson back to S6 and he’s been spotted meeting the new manager. The promotion-winner hasn’t featured all season after being frozen out by Xisco Munoz.
A new manager can be a great thing for a number of reasons. For Johnson, it could be great news as he bids to show Rohl exactly what he’s capable of.
For whatever reason, Munoz just didn’t fancy Johnson. Despite playing Akin Famewo and Tyreeq Bakinson out of position as left-sided options; the 32-year-old was banished from the training ground.
Reprieve could be on the cards for Johnson
With Rohl getting to work on the training ground yesterday; Johnson was back in the building at the Middlewood Road training ground. He was spotted looking all smiles as the new boss introduced himself.
This footage was spotted on the club’s official Twitter account. Rohl gave a warm handshake to all of the Wednesday squad before they got quickly down to work ahead of Saturday’s trip to Watford.
It would appear as though Rohl is definitely going to take a look at Johnson in training this week. Famewo was injured prior to the international break. As a result, the new boss could be a man light at left-back and that would certainly help Johnson’s case.
Johnson can bring something to the Wednesday squad
This is the first major call for Rohl as he gets to work at Hillsborough. Johnson was perhaps harshly treated by Munoz and it’s fair to say that he would be a useful player to have around the squad.
Johnson scored three goals and claimed a remarkable 14 assists last season as Wednesday won promotion. He operated at left-back, left-sided wing-back and in a more advanced role.
Having a player with that sort of flexibility would be ideal. Wednesday have to start getting some points on the board and Johnson’s ability to create chances from wide areas could help the Owls.
