Carlton Palmer has picked who should replace Sheffield Wednesday boss Xisco Munoz if a vacancy becomes available. The Spaniard could be edging close to the brink after a winless run of nine games.
Wednesday were battered 3-0 against Sunderland on Friday night. They were also beaten 3-0 against Swansea in the game before and face West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday evening.
Palmer isn’t backwards in coming forward when it comes to having an opinion on the Owls. He now believes there is only one man for the job should Munoz leave the club.
Palmer wants controversial choice as next Sheffield Wednesday boss
It won’t come as a surprise but Neil Warnock is the name that Palmer thinks could take Wednesday forward. However, he has conceded that appointing him would be controversial.
Warnock is a bit of a legend at Sheffield United. As a result, it does feel unlikely that the proven promotion-winner and survival expert would fancy a final hoorah in S6.
Palmer does think he’d be ideal though. He told Football League World: “It’s hard to put forward names although it’s a fantastic football club. You’re behind the eight-ball as the chairman is saying he’s unwilling to invest any more money into the club.
“The question is, who would want to take it? I do believe that if money was available and he was able to manage in his way, Neil Warnock is the one name that springs to mind. I know he wouldn’t be a popular choice but he’d get the job done.”
Warnock would be a brilliant appointment
It might seem like a backward step to appoint a manager who has been around the block. Right now, however, the Owls would seriously benefit from his managerial expertise.
No manager has more promotions on his CV than Warnock. He’s also proved a bit of an expert when it comes to keeping teams up in recent years, doing a wonderful job with Huddersfield last season.
Something has to give at Hillsborough. Normally in football that usually means the manager going and if Munoz does leave it will be interesting to see who takes over.
