Sheffield Wednesday head coach Danny Rohl has delivered some intriguing comments on striker Lee Gregory.

The German incumbent has been speaking with The Star.

So, what exactly has Rohl had to say about Gregory and his Wednesday future? Let’s take a closer look.

What Danny Rohl has said about Sheffield Wednesday striker Lee Gregory

Well, it remains that the door remains ever so slightly ajar for Gregory when it comes to his Wednesday future.

Rohl has been discussing the striker who failed to secure a move away from Hillsborough during the January transfer window.

Gregory was linked with a move to Derby from Wednesday during the mid-season transfer window but terms couldn’t be agreed over his wages.

Now, the striker has been thrown a bit of a lifeline despite being left out of the 25-man squad by Wednesday boss Rohl.

He told The Star: “I’ve never seen before a player who takes these things like him. He’s still training hard, he is ready when I say yes, he’s given me a feeling that he’s absolutely on my side, on my page. In the end, it is what it is.

“He is still part of my team, and the good thing is that I still have open space on the list – it means that if we need him he will be ready. I think he deserves all the credit, he’s done well for the whole club, but this is sometimes football.

“Some decisions we have to take, and I think he’s shown his professional attitude.”

Gregory could still play role

It’s a real shame to see Gregory banished from the Wednesday squad when it comes to featuring on a matchday and he has the tools to be a real leader of the pack.

However, as Rohl says, this is a professional sport and sometimes tough and unpopular decisions do have to be made.

Gregory has served Wednesday extremely well, scoring 29 goals in 101 appearances for the Owls – and helping the team to promotion last season.

It will give the striker some confidence to kick on in training and keep his head down given that Rohl has now praised his commitment.

With Gregory a popular player at Wednesday, it would be nice to think that somewhere down the line he can get the chance of a proper Hillsborough send-off with his contract up in the summer.
