The former Sheffield Wednesday loanee Alessio da Cruz will not be back at Hillsborough this season.
Da Cruz spent the second half of last term with the Owls, for whom he assisted two goals in 15 outings.
And, according to Yorkshire Live, the Parma winger was on Wednesday’s radar in the summer transfer window.
But Da Cruz has instead returned to his native Netherlands, signing for FC Groningen on a season-long loan.
Groningen, whose options in Da Cruz’s position include the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben, announced the move on their official website yesterday (Saturday).
The Eredivisie side say they have an option to buy the 23-year-old at the end of his temporary spell.
Wednesday have since signed the former Huddersfield Town winger Elias Kachunga and are targeting another in Andre Green, who was most recently on Aston Villa’s books, according to The Sun on Sunday.
The newspaper claims that Green, who appeared to announce his Villa departure in August, is wanted ‘on loan’ by the Owls.
