Sheffield Wednesday fans will be excited to check out their new signings this weekend.

The Owls are set to kickstart their Championship campaign as they host Plymouth Argyle on Sunday afternoon.

Their final round of preseason fixtures took place at the weekend, but Danny Rohl gave very little away about his first starting line-up.

The likes of James Beadle, Yan Valery and Djeidi Gassama were all included in their draw against Leganes, while the likes of Di’Shon Bernard, Svante Ingelsson and Nathaniel Chalobah all faced Rotherham United in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Sheffield Wednesday currently have very few options in the midfield, with Chalobah and Barry Bannan both likely to start.

Ingelsson and Josh Windass could be up for a more attacking position, though it seems like the latter is most likely to earn his spot after such a strong end to the 2023/24 season.

His Swedish teammate is yet to play in England, having spent the last three years in the German second division.

Ingelsson tipped to be a ‘good pick up’ for Sheffield Wednesday

It is hard for fans to predict how Ingelsson’s spell at Hillsborough will go, however journalist George Smith has tipped him to be an unexpected success.

Speaking on The Championship Chat Podcast, Smith said: “I don’t think they’ve made any sort of statement, sparkling signings, but I think there’s been a good mix in there. I’m particularly excited to see what Svante Ingelsson brings, I have got a really good feeling that he could prove to be a good pick up for Wednesday in that midfield.”

Ingelsson has experience, versatility and attacking talent

Ingelsson made a real impact in 2. Bundesliga – making 38 key passes, which was in the 85th percentile of the league, as well as producing 3.29 crosses per game.

He also attempted 2.41 dribbles per 90 minutes, as well as competing for 11.16 ground duels.

The 26-year-old was a real attacking threat in the division and has also previously shown his versatility – playing in every single position apart from goalkeeper, centre-back and left-back.

Ingelsson also has experience in a number of different leagues including 2. Bundesliga, Allsvenskan, Serie A and Serie B.

While he may take a while to settle in, it would be surprising if Ingelsson didn’t provide good competition for Windass and could also pick up plenty of minutes covering in various other positions.

The midfielder did arrive on a free transfer too, so Wednesday should have no real concerns about him.
