Di’Shon Bernard has raised a tongue-in-cheek question following Sheffield Wednesday’s win over Blackburn Rovers.
Taking to Instagram, the defender asked whether he deserved to be credited with an assist for Josh Windass’ goal at Hillsborough.
Sheffield Wednesday were handed only their second win of the Championship campaign as they claimed an impressive 3-1 win over Blackburn on home soil at the weekend.
Bailey Cadamarteri opened the scoring after only five minutes in what was his second start for the club, before Sammie Szmodics equalised around the hour mark.
Marvin Johnson took advantage of his arrival on the pitch at half-time and slotted home his first of the season to gift the Owls the lead, before Rovers pressed on as they looked to set the scoreline even for a second time.
However, with Blackburn’s team all sent forwards in the dying minutes, Josh Windass was able to capitalise and sprinted almost the full length of the pitch to hand the hosts a third.
The forward’s chance came after Szmodics had attempted a shot from outside the box in search of the equaliser, but the ball deflected off Di’Shon Bernard‘s back and landed in Windass’ path.
The 23-year-old posted a video of the goal on his Instagram story, with the caption: “Assist?”

While Di’Shon Bernard may have been having a joke as he definitely didn’t know much about it, he was actually awarded the assist for the goal – his second in blue and white.
It capped off a brilliant display by Bernard, with the Sheffield Star giving him a ‘9’ rating and claiming he ‘showed everything that you’d want to see from a player in his role’.
As per Sofascore, the centre-back made four clearances, two blocks, two interceptions and one tackle, while he also completed 88% of his passes.
After another solid display against Leicester City last week, Bernard looks to be really proving himself under Danny Rohl.
There were high expectations placed upon him when he joined from Manchester United and he is certainly reaching them now.
After a really tough start in the Championship in which the Owls have conceded the second-most goals, Bernard will be looking to lead by example and help firm up the improving backline.
Sheffield Wednesday will travel to Stoke City at the weekend, with the Potters failing to win a game since October. Alex Neil’s side have conceded nine goals in their last three games.
