Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl heaped praise on Josh Windass after a 3-1 win over Blackburn on Saturday.
The Owls claimed a second successive win during this Hillsborough clash, with Windass bagging the third goal during the afternoon.
The 29-year-old scored his first goal of the season against Rovers and he will now hope to kick on ahead of a busy Christmas period.
Rohl heaps praise on Windass after Wednesday win
The Owls moved onto seven points after this victory and they know that more wins are required.
They still find themselves 10 points adrift of relegation and they must now go on a bit of a run.
After the game, Rohl spoke about a conversation he’d had with Wednesday star Windass before the game on Saturday.
He told The Star: “It’s sometimes bizarre in football. I had a meeting with him this morning and I explained his position today. I said to him at the end I had a feeling that Josh would score today. Sometimes this is football, he deserved it because he worked hard and he did everything we asked. He was fantastic and I explained to him the importance of him.”
Windass can be game-changer for Owls
The player always gives his all to the Wednesday cause and it’s perhaps fitting that he scored the game-securing goal.
Wednesday did well to go in front and then still feel as though they could win after being pegged back.
Windass was a big part of the things that Wednesday did well and he also claimed an assist for Bailey Cadamarteri during the victory.
The challenge for Windass is consistency. He will now hope that he can go on a goalscoring run and begin to fire the Owls into a safer position in the league.
Windass has been with Wednesday for a few years and he’s made 122 appearances for the club.
During that period, he’s found the net on 34 occasions and helped himself to 17 assists.
Perhaps Windass’ best attribute is his ability to play in several attacking positions for Wednesday.
On Saturday, he did a job on the left wing but he’s also played as a centre-forward for Rohl since he arrived at Wednesday.
Windass is a big player and character in the Wednesday dressing room and hopefully, he can continue to flourish.
