David Prutton shares ‘tough’ verdict in honest Sheffield Wednesday vs Cardiff City prediction

Sheffield Wednesday are hoping to get back to winning ways this weekend when they face struggling Cardiff City, but David Prutton thinks a positive result will be hard to come by for the Owls.

It has been a long wait for Sheffield Wednesday fans to see their side in action, with the international break disrupting the Championship season once more.

That said, some will have been happy to forget about the Owls for a bit, after the disappointment of the Steel City derby defeat just before the break.

Danny Rohl is under no illusions as to what is holding his team back this season, and has been working the players hard during this period to ensure they bounce back against Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon.

Sheffield Wednesday to get a draw against Cardiff City

Cardiff may be languishing in the relegation zone right now, but they are only three points behind Wednesday, and as we know, anyone can beat anyone in the Championship.

It’s what makes the second tier so hard to predict, but David Prutton has offered his thoughts on the upcoming fixture as part of the Essential EFL podcast, and suggested the Owls will find it difficult to get the win they need against the Bluebirds.

Prutton said: “Wednesday need a reaction. Cardiff City, where they find themselves precariously inside the bottom three… it’s a tough game.”

Co-host Simeon Gholam added: “Sheffield Wednesday lost both league games against Cardiff last season 2-1, after having lost just one of their previous 11 meetings. So, what’s the score?”

It seems Prutton couldn’t separate the two sides on this occasion, and has offered a prediction of a 1-1 draw at Hillsborough in the early kick-off on Saturday.

Three points crucial for Sheffield Wednesday against Cardiff

The game against Cardiff will undoubtedly be difficult, as any game in the Championship is, but Wednesday simply have to win this one, not just for the sake of the three points, but for the mental edge it could give them moving forward.

Momentum is so important at this level, and Danny Rohl has a great opportunity to set his team on a winning run they desperately need. The Owls have not won consecutive games all season, and that has to change.

Looking at the run of fixtures coming up, Wednesday have a really good opportunity to put together a positive run of results against teams very close to them in the table.

Sheffield Wednesday have players coming back from injury, home advantage, and the chance to make a real statement in the early kick-off on Saturday, and they have to grab that opportunity with both hands.
