Darren Moore saw his first game since leaving Sheffield Wednesday end in dramatic circumstances. Huddersfield scored in the 94th minute to earn a share of the spoils at Coventry City.
Seeing Moore draped in Huddersfield gear must have been hard for some Owls supporters last night. It must have been akin to watching an old flame out on the tiles with her handsome hunk of a new man!
The start of his time at the Terriers really couldn’t have been more fitting. Michal Helik fired home in the fourth minute of added time, much like Josh Windass did at Wembley 120 days ago.
Moore gets off to a decent start after Wednesday exit
Things shouldn’t have been like this for Wednesday. Moore had everyone at the football club signing from the same hymn sheet and it was pretty cruel how things ended.
Dejphon Chansiri clearly had a different vision. The result of that has been Wednesday playing eight matches in the Championship under Xisco Munoz and now winning any of them.
Nobody knows whether Moore would have done any better from the eight games that have been played. Still, he wouldn’t have alienated promotion winners and the dressing room would likely boast the same togetherness.
Huddersfield off to a decent start under Moore
Coventry were penalties away from reaching the Premier League last season. As a result, heading to the Coventry Building Society Stadium first up was always going to be tough for Moore.
In the first half, Huddersfield were pretty drab and fell behind when Yasin Ayari pounced to fire the home side into the lead.
Moore said his piece at half-time, however. They fought tooth and nail in the second period and deep into stoppage time, Helik pounced to fire the Terriers a huge point.
Wednesday were handed a reminder of the never-say-die spirit that Moore instilled into his team. That mentality seems a far cry from the current crop under the management of Munoz.
