Danny Rohl’s ‘mad’ Sheffield Wednesday training sessions are now really ‘working’

Sheffield Wednesday have been praised for one ‘mad’ thing they have been doing in training.

Danny Rohl was expected to take a whole new approach to training, tactics and analysis following his arrival at Sheffield Wednesday, having previously worked as a First Team Performance & Opposition Analyst during his time with RB Leipzig.

The German has already been heavily praised at his new club, with both Barry Bannan and Josh Windass admitting that he is the best coach they have worked with in their lengthy careers.

Rohl looks to have drastically changed things around at Hillsborough in such a short space of time, and when you dive into his training sessions you begin to understand why.

According to The Star, Rohl and the coaching staff have transformed Wednesdays into ‘mad days’ at Middlewood Road, used to prepare for Rohl’s tactical style of high-intensity and modern play.

There are no breaks in the session and every player is pushed extremely hard, with GPS packs worn to ensure no one is slacking. Players are taught to put in the work to cope with the demands and thus impress in the Championship.

While perhaps not enjoyable, The Star journalist Alex Miller has admitted that it is definitely ‘working’.

The report mentions that Sheffield Wednesday have scored six times in the last 15 minutes at home, while their average number of shots has increased from 1.95 to 3.5.

Can their ‘mad days’ help Sheffield Wednesday stay up?

Danny Rohl and his staff are eager to drive up the standards at Sheffield Wednesday and has proven to be doing its job, with the players holding energy and determination that arguably wasn’t there before.

This is perhaps why they enjoyed so much success during the busiest period of the campaign too.

Sheffield Wednesday were without a number of injured players for a very busy Christmas schedule, but they still went onto pick up five wins since the start of December.

The Owls can keep pushing when a lot of other teams maybe couldn’t, and Rohl will now be hoping that it is that energy that can keep them going right until the end of the season.

When others tire, Sheffield Wednesday will be climbing out of the relegation zone at pace.
