Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has raved about Djeidi Gassama after Saturday’s defeat at Bristol City. The Owls incumbent was impressed with the player after handing him a rare start.
The player was handed his first Championship start by Rohl at Ashton Gate. He was withdrawn at half-time, with Gassama picking up a caution just before the interval with Wednesday a goal down.
At 20-years-old, Gassama signed for Wednesday in the summer and has an abundance of potential. After his first start for the Owls, Rohl has been very complimentary about the player.
Rohl raves about Gassama
It did come as a surprise to see the player on the team sheet when the news emerged on Saturday. With Josh Windass nursing an injury, however, Rohl decided to roll the dice.
After the game, he suggested that he was impressed. Rohl told Yorkshire Live: “He has so much potential. He needs to do it for 90 minutes but he is good one against one, is quick between the lines and I’m very happy with him. He’s a constant menace.”
Gassama checked in at Wednesday during the summer transfer window when Xisco Munoz was still in charge. In the early stages of his Hillsborough career, some footage emerged of him showcasing incredible pace in training.

Wednesday have found goals hard to come by this season. As a result, Rohl might be wise to persist with Gassama and his pace could be a serious asset for the Owls.
At 20, Wednesday might have to remain patient with Gassama as he adapts to life in England. However, as someone who has turned out for PSG before, he has to be worth a chance at Hillsborough.
Rohl will hope to get a settled starting eleven in the coming weeks. With that in mind, he must now make a decision whether or not to persist with Gassama in his Wednesday team going forward.
