Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has explained what made him unhappy after his team went a goal down vs Preston.
The Owls have undergone a topsy-turvy spell in form in the 2024/25 Championship season in recent weeks.
Sheffield Wednesday’s last three games have seen them notch two successive wins on the road against both Hull City and Derby County, which was then followed up by a fairly mediocre 1-1 draw in S6 against Paul Heckingbottom’s Preston North End.
It is glaringly obvious that Danny Rohl was far from happy after the result at the weekend, with him suggesting it ‘felt like a loss’, and whilst it saw Sheffield Wednesday come back from a one-goal deficit at half-time, the German boss was still not pleased with his side conceding first.
The Sheffield Wednesday boss has since voiced his frustration at the fact his side are giving away plucky goals.

Danny Rohl voices frustration at Sheffield Wednesday conceding early vs Preston
Despite having endured a decent campaign so far this season, which sees them sit 9th in the league table, Sheffield Wednesday currently have a trend of going behind first and having to do all the hard work to get anything from the game, just like the recent points picked up against Derby County and Preston North End.
Rohl has expressed his annoyance at his side starting slowly in games after he said, per The Star: “After Derby we spoke about this, the character and the mentality is right at the end. It is the reason we take points from being 1-0 down.
“But I wish for us to have the right mindset at the start of the game. Derby and Preston have both started on the front foot and in this league it is the difference.
“Preston and Derby know what they have to do and we need to understand our basics and what we have to do first. Then we can start to play our nice football, create chances, ball possession. Hopefully we learn soon.”

Sheffield Wednesday determination shows night-and-day difference to 2023/24 season
Rohl is undoubtedly correct that his side happen to make things more difficult for themselves due to going a goal down often, however they still deserve heaps of praise for showing such character and determination in not bowing out when that happens.
Last season, whilst Sheffield Wednesday found themselves on a massive upturn in form when Rohl came on board, the spirit to come back from a goal deficit was somewhat non-existent, and the Owls would often bow out against top opposition.
The heavy defeat last season at the hands of Ipswich Town is a clear example of where Sheffield Wednesday have come from as that showed a team with little motivation to go head-to-head with a top side, but the character in the side now compared to then has been massively developed, something which Rohl is undoubtedly the one to thank.
