Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has said that ‘the race is open’ for goalkeepers Devis Vasquez and Cameron Dawson to claim the no.1 spot.
Both goalkeepers have had the spot on different occasions this season, with Vasquez playing the majority of games this season for Wednesday making nine appearances in the Championship, keeping one clean sheet.
Dawson meanwhile has made five appearances, keeping two clean sheets. So far he has been preferred to Vazquez in Rohl’s three games in charge.
Manager yet to make decision
Speaking to Yorkshire Live, Rohl said that he still has not decided on a regular no.1 for the Owls, but says what happens in the next few games is ‘important’ for his decision.
“I want to see good performances and if we see improvements and the goalkeeper shows more solutions with the ball then this is what I like.
“But in the end, yes, the race is open. I’ve arrived now and I’m getting more and more feeling for the both of them.
“Let’s just have a look at what happens in the next few matches but at the moment I see improvements and this is important for my decision.”
Who will Rohl choose?
This is quite the conundrum for Danny Rohl.
Former manager Xisco Munoz clearly preferred AC Milan loanee Vasquez, who started in every game apart from the opening game against Southampton.
Dawson has since been preferred under caretaker Neil Thompson and now Rohl.
Besides his goal against Watford he leaked through, you can not really fault the 28-year-old so far this campaign.
It will certainly be interesting to see if Rohl sticks with Dawson or opts to change.
