Sheffield Wednesday have impressed against tough opposition so far in pre-season.
Danny Rohl has ensured that his Sheffield Wednesday side are ready for the upcoming challenges of the 2024/25 Championship campaign by putting them against tough sides ahead of the season.
Pre-season was kicked off with a clash against Alfreton Town in order to bolster fitness across the ranks, then was followed up with games against Champions League side RB Salzburg and German outfit Werder Bremen.
The away stand-off with RB Salzburg saw Rohl’s side expectedly undone, however Sheffield Wednesday more than held their own against Werder Bremen, with the Owls earning a 2-2 draw, coming back from a two-goal deficit courtesy of goals from Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama.
Musaba and Gassama were crucial in Rohl’s team clawing back in the final 60 minutes, however it was an alternative attacking partnership that the German boss praised following the conclusion of the game.

Danny Rohl full of praise for Sheffield Wednesday duo Jamal Lowe and Josh Windass
Rohl spoke very positively about Jamal Lowe and Josh Windass’ combined efforts in the 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen.
Speaking to The Star, Rohl said: “Everybody gave a good performance in the last 60 minutes.
“Josh and Jamal worked very hard together.”
Sheffield Wednesday’s attacking output will certainly be helped this season from the signing of Lowe, especially with his proven goalscoring talents at this level, as well with Windass committing his future to stay at Hillsborough for the following season, with the attacker adamant that the Owls are targeting a potential promotion push this season.

Sheffield Wednesday forming attacking partnerships will be crucial
It’s beginning to become clear that Rohl has helped mould various attacking partnerships within his squad, from Windass and Lowe, to the likes of Musaba and Gassama, both of which complimented each other incredibly well on either wing, causing problems for the Werder Bremen defence, as well as bagging a goal each.
Short and intricate passing has been emphasised this pre-season, as well as creating space out wide, something that was evident in Musaba’s goal, which was incredibly well finished off by the Dutch 23-year-old.
The sooner that Rohl can perfect these partnerships, the more his attack will continue to gel and provide the goalscoring output that he demands this season.
There is no doubt that Rohl has near enough perfectly executed pre-season so far for the Owls ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season, and once partnerships have formed across the side, such as the likes of wing-backs Yan Valery and Max Lowe who can offer attacking talents out wide, then Sheffield Wednesday could be a side to look out for this season.
