Danny Rohl has issued an injury update on Ian Poveda after he was forced off in Sheffield Wednesday’s win over Millwall.
Sheffield Wednesday claimed their second win in three games this weekend as an impressive first half display secured all three points in London.
Ike Ugbo netted his third goal since joining the club, while Anthony Musaba took his goal contribution tally to nine in all competitions.
While there were plenty of positives to take from the game, Danny Rohl was also left with some concerns.
Barry Bannan was withdrawn after a brutal tackle left him needing treatment, while Ashley Fletcher was sent off in added time.
Ian Poveda also hobbled off late in the second half, leaving supporters a little worried after third successive start.
Rohl has assured that Poveda is ‘fine’ though, telling The Star: “Ian is fine. He feels it of course, when he arrived at Wednesday he was not playing so much and you can see now after 60 or 70 minutes we have to pay attention, but he is so helpful.
He is always active with the ball, in the pockets he plays with small movements and this is always so difficult for opponents. It’s great.”
Sheffield Wednesday need to be careful with Poveda
Ian Poveda had only made one start and a further six cameo appearances for Leeds United this term – featuring for only five minutes since November.
The attacker has now been thrown in at the deep end with Sheffield Wednesday, so it comes as no surprise if his fitness maybe isn’t where it needs to be after so long away from regular action.
Danny Rohl won’t want to put pressure on him or risk him picking up any further injury for the remainder of the season, as it is apparent that he could be very important in their bid to stay in the Championship.
The Colombian bagged his first assist for the club against Birmingham, while he put on another solid display before he was taken off yesterday too.
Improving performances from the likes of Poveda, Ugbo and Musaba is really promising for the Owls, who can surely only benefit from healthy competition among their team.
