Sheffield Wednesday earned a huge 2-0 win at Millwall in the Championship today, with one man standing out.
Sheffield Wednesday headed to Millwall for a crunch match in the Championship this afternoon.
The Lions started the day in 21st place of the table compared to the Owls in 23rd, with seven points the gap between the two.
But Danny Rohl‘s side have now closed that gap to four after arguably Sheffield Wednesday’s best away performance of the season.
Lining up in a new-look five-at-the-back system, Sheffield Wednesday scored twice in quick succession in the first half, with Anthony Musaba crossing for Ike Ugbo to finish, and then Barry Bannan playing it through to Musaba for the second.
The second half was as cagey as expected. Millwall tried but failed to really test James Beadle in the Wednesday goal, and the Owls were happy to cruise through to full-time with their 2-0 lead in tact.
Anthony Musaba shines on return to Sheffield Wednesday XI
Musaba returned to the starting XI today after starting the last two games on the bench.
The Dutchman has, on the whole, been a very good signing for Sheffield Wednesday this season, though he has shown spells of inconsistency.
But back in the XI and refreshed, Musaba ran the show in the first half, with his individual bits of brilliance helping the Owls to an eventual three points.
And his first half performance caught the eye of journalist Alex Miller, who posted on X:
As per Sofascore, Musaba made 12 out of 14 passes with 1 key pass, won 7 out of 2 duels, made 2 out of 2 dribbles.
Rotation key for Danny Rohl
Rohl has two very good and very similar attacking players in Musaba and Djeidi Gassama.
But it’s rarely been the case that both are firing for the Owls and now with Musaba showing his class after a little run out of the XI, it could give Rohl reason to drop Gassama and give him a bit of a rest.
Games are coming thick and fats over the next few weeks and months and with the Owls still in such a desperate situation, he’ll need his best players fresh.
The same can be said right across the pitch, but injuries aren’t helping the Owls’ cause at the minute with Bailey Cadamarteri missing out today, assumingly through illness or injury.
But Musaba was a shining light in an overall strong performance and huge win for Sheffield Wednesday, with the gap to safety now four points, with QPR having beat Bristol City 1-0 today.
