Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has discussed Kristian Pedersen’s immediate future at the club.
Pedersen was one of two deadline day arrivals for Sheffield Wednesday, joining on loan from Swansea City alongside Ian Poveda who joined on loan from Leeds United.
And Rohl threw Pedersen right in at the deep end; Pedersen started at left-back against Huddersfield Town in place of the injured Marvin Johnson, and the Owls would go on to lose 4-0.
It was a bad debut for Pedersen and his only game time since has been a few minutes at the end of the 2-0 win against Birmingham City.
The Dane has since picked up an injury and looks set to be sidelined for a few weeks, but Rohl says the 29-year-old will remain at Hillsborough regardless.

Speaking to The Star after Pedersen’s recent injury blow, Rohl revealed that he’s not entirely sure of the full-back’s potential return date, but that he’ll be staying with the club.
Rohl said:
“I expect him back before the end of the season. But I can’t really say a date. It could be four weeks or maybe after the international break he’ll be back. It’s an injury like some of the others, and you have to look from week to week. At the moment, though, he’s not available.
“He will stay with us, because it’s not an injury like three months, it’s maybe four weeks – hopefully four weeks – and then there are still 10 weeks to go. So I think that it’s helpful for him to stay here.”
Poor planning sees Sheffield Wednesday waste a loan
Pedersen very much seemed like a panic purchase for Sheffield Wednesday.
They probably had a list of options to bring in at left-back and no doubt arrived at Pedersen towards the end of that search; he’d played just four times in the Championship this season before arriving.
So it seemed inevitable that he’d either take some time to hit the ground running, or pick up an injury, and both statements have proved correct.
He was poor against Huddersfield and now he faces a few weeks on the sidelines; after that, he’ll still need to get up to speed, so it doesn’t look like Pedersen will feature all too much for Sheffield Wednesday.
But if he can make a return to fitness then he could play some kind of back-up role to Johnson at left-back.
Pedersen remains a very experienced player and this next few weeks give him a chance to get up to speed with Rohl’s style as well as his fitness.
