Danny Rohl has explained why he believes Kevin Beadell is the ‘right match’ for Sheffield Wednesday.

Speaking to the club website, the Owls boss claimed that his knowledge of the market was a key factor.

Sheffield Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Kevin Beadell as their new Head of Recruitment yesterday – almost six months after David Downes left the role vacant when he joined Blackpool in June.

The 47-year-old has worked in recruitment for most of his life, starting his career with Arsenal, before joining Manchester United and later returning to the Emirates Stadium as their lead scout in the UK.

Beadell most recently spent almost three years with Cardiff City before leaving his position in the summer.

After working with both Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson, Beadell will now link up with Danny Rohl at Hillsborough.

The transfer chief has already shared his excitement at being at Sheffield Wednesday, while Rohl has now reiterated his thoughts and has explained why the new addition is a ‘great match’.

Speaking to the club, he said: “I think the Head of Recruitment was a big topic in the past. For me, it was important to find a good guy who is a good match for me and the club.

“I had conversations with Kevin about my philosophy and the club spoke to him as well, and we had the same thoughts, that he was the right match for us.

“Everybody knows we have a big challenge and we have to prepare as good as possible and Kevin will be a key part.

“Everybody knows that our direction is teamwork, we will work together. He is a good human, he has a good CV and I think it’s a great match.

“When you look at our staff, you see good CVs and it’s important we have experienced guys here.”

On Beadell’s extensive knowledge of the market, Rohl added: “It was a big topic before we chose Kevin, to find someone who knows the market immediately.

“He has a good connection to clubs, agents and players. He knows the market and the Championship very well.

“It’s a good step forward to have a new guy in this key position and we have to work together to find the right players for the future.

“It’s about building something for the future and it’s important that we have a guy who understands our philosophy and we find players able to do my style of football and then we can create an identity at the club.

“It’s time to work together to build something special.”

Can Kevin Beadell improve Sheffield Wednesday’s squad?

Kevin Beadell spent years and years working with two of the biggest clubs in the world, while he undoubtedly will have recruited some exceptional talents too.

But his recent time in the Championship is perhaps the most intriguing, given that that is where he will be for the foreseeable future.

Beadell arrived in Cardiff in October 2020, and since then, the club had signed the likes of Mark McGuinness, Perry Ng, Ryan Wintle – all of whom have been key players this term, while Ng won last year’s Player of the Season.
