Danny Rohl delivers comical reaction after hearing about remarkable Sheffield Wednesday stat

It proved a frustrating afternoon for Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday as Burnley went top of the Championship with a 2-0 win over the Owls.

Danny Rohl saw his team put to the sword courtesy of goals from Jaidon Anthony and Josh Brownhill.

It means Wednesday are in 18th place in the Championship table and sit just three points clear of the bottom three.

A midweek clash with Portsmouth looks particularly mouthwatering and it’s fair to say that the Owls could desperately do with a run of wins.

After another defeat in the second tier, Rohl must crunch the numbers, look at the data and ultimately come up with a plan.

Wednesday felt they perhaps could have been awarded a penalty kick yesterday – although the fact that it wasn’t given shouldn’t come as a surprise…

Danny Rohl verdict on amazing Sheffield Wednesday statistic

The German boss has done a lot of good things since he came to Hillsborough but he’s not been able to change one thing.

Winning penalties isn’t something that Rohl has been able to change sadly with Wednesday now going 512 days without a penalty.

Port Vale hold the record for most games since last getting a penalty having gone 73 fixtures without one.

Wednesday are closing in on that record, however, and have now gone 65 matches without getting themselves a spot kick awarded.

Rohl told his press conference: “We have to create more chances and more opportunities and then maybe we will get one.”

When did Sheffield Wednesday last get a penalty

It’s been a whirlwind since the second leg of the play-off semi-final against Peterborough but that was the night when the Owls last got a penalty.

On that occasion, Michael Smith cooly despatched the spot kick to set up a famous victory for the Owls as they progressed to the play-off final.

Wednesday have perhaps been unlucky to not get at least one penalty since then and it really is getting pretty silly.

As Rohl mentioned, the fact remains that Wednesday need to create more opportunities in the penalty area and then perhaps that long-awaited spot kick will come.
