Sheffield Wednesday fans will remember Daniel Pudil well, with the 35-cap former Czech Republic international being part of the Owls side that reached the Championship play-off final in 2016.

Initially joining Wednesday on loan from Watford, the Owls made his stay permanent after one season, with left-back Pudil eventually making 114 total appearances for the Owls, scoring four goals and assisting nine more.

Daniel Pudil shares Danny Rohl verdict at Sheffield Wednesday

Speaking on All Wednesday, Pudil revealed how he’s met Danny Rohl on a couple of occasions now, briefly speaking with the beloved Owls boss.

Sheffield Wednesday appointed Rohl in October last year, and the rest is history: Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday pulled off the great escape last season, ending the campaign in an unexpected 20th place.

Now after Sheffield Wednesday’s comeback win against Derby County last time out, the Owls sit in 12th place of the Championship table.

Pudil said of Rohl: “I’ve seen him a couple of times. They have been a couple times, to Nonna’s [restaurant], with the whole squad, so I have been there.

“I had a little chat with him, not much, but I think he’s doing a great job. Especially last season when no one expected that he can do the miracle, and then he has done it.

“Obviously maybe this season, there is little more expectation from him, so it’s going to be a little bit more harder for him now, to prove that he’s the right manager and he’s a good manager.

“But I think he’s still doing well.”

Pudil also reminisced about his former Owls teammates, naming six players he still keeps in touch with, including long-standing Owls duo Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer.

“I’m not in any WhatsApp group with anyone, but we still keep in touch on the social media, Instagram and stuff like that,” Pudil explained.

“I have a little chat with Liam Palmer, Barry Bannan, Cammy Dawson still, sometimes Steven Fletcher as well, Gary Hooper has obviously been here as well to play my charity game in Hillsborough, Glenn Loovens.

“I still like to keep in touch with those players.”

What is Daniel Pudil up to these days?

After being released by Sheffield Wednesday in 2019, Pudil returned to his native Czech Republic, spending two seasons there before seemingly calling time on his career.

But he surprised everyone in the Steel City in 2021 when he returned, signing a deal with local non-league side Hallam FC who he’s still playing for to this day.

They play in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division which is the ninth-tier of English football.

Pudil also works as part of Sheffield Wednesday’s ‘Owls Community Programme’, and so he’s still very much involved with the club.
