Championship stalwart ‘one of three’ strikers on Sheffield Wednesday shortlist

Birmingham City striker Scott Hogan is one of three players currently on the shortlist at Sheffield Wednesday.

That is according to journalist Alan Nixon.

So, what has the transfer guru said about Wednesday and their interest in Hogan? Let’s take a closer look…

Sheffield Wednesday want Scott Hogan this month

Well, it would appear as though Ike Ugbo won’t be the only striker to arrive at Wednesday this month.

The Hillsborough club are keen to add more firepower to their ranks and that doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

According to Alan Nixon, Hogan is still on Danny Rohl’s radar with two other strikers also alongside him on the list.

However, The Sun journalist couldn’t share the other two names as he didn’t know the identity of them at this stage.

Hogan is an intriguing one and he would arrive at any new club with very little football to his name recently.

The 31-year-old has fallen out of favour at Birmingham, starting 10 games in their Championship campaign.

On Saturday, Hogan was handed a rare start as Tony Mowbray got off the mark with a draw against Swansea.

In that game, he registered an assist but if Wednesday want him for his goals, they should note that he’s scored just once during 2023/24.

Hogan would be risky signing for the Owls

This would be a risky signing for a club in Wednesday’s situation and they will have to weigh up every option with this one.

Pep Clotet praised Wednesday-linked Hogan when he was in charge of Birmingham, calling him ‘very dangerous’ after a win over Nottingham Forest.

Hogan is something of a stalwart in the Championship and he’s netted 67 goals in 251 appearances during his career.

The 31-year-old hasn’t played in the Premier League during his career but he would surely see a move to Wednesday as a good one for him.

With Michael Smith and Lee Gregory set to leave this month, a void will be created in the team’s attack.

Given his advancing years, Hogan would surely welcome the chance to play regular football and Wednesday could be a good move for him.

However, the Owls must look after their own house.

They need more points to edge closer to safety and they must decide whether or not they think Hogan is capable of scoring enough goals to keep Wednesday up.
