Sheffield Wednesday look set to keep one of their out of contract players ahead of next season, regardless of what division they’re in.
There’s a horde of first-team players set to leave Sheffield Wednesday this summer.
Aside from the (at least) nine players who see their contract expire, there’s also several loan players who’ll return to their parent clubs.
James Beadle, Ike Ugbo, and Ian Poveda have all become key players since signing in January, so there eventual summer exits will certainly leave Danny Rohl with a lot of rebuilding to do.

There’s a bit of uncertainty where contracts are regarded at Hillsborough, with certain players like Marvin Johnson thought to be out of contract.
But those who are definitely out of contract include Barry Bannan, Liam Palmer, Lee Gregory, Josh Windass, Will Vaulks, Cameron Dawson, Dominic Iorfa, and Di’Shon Bernard.
Barry Bannan set to stay
Of those players out of contract, club captain Bannan is no doubt the standout.
The 34-year-old has been with the Owls since the 2015/16 season and is approaching his 400th game for the club, with 30 goals and 65 assists to his name in blue and white.
And now it’s reported by The Star that Bannan looks likely to stay in S6 beyond this season.

Rohl previously said of Bannan’s future, ‘I am very convinced he will be here, it doesn’t matter which league’.

Whether Sheffield Wednesday are playing in the Championship or League One next season, the summer ahead is bound to be one of change, and the following season is bound to be another difficult one.
Investment in the team doesn’t look set to improve and so the club needs players like Bannan who are committed to the club and who genuinely care about the badge.
Not only that, but Bannan has once again shown his class in the Championship this season; as per Sofascore, Bannan is Sheffield Wednesday’s highest-rated player this season with an average rating of 7.09.
He seems to be getting better with age and the fact that he’s rarely injured is a testament to him and the way he takes care of himself.
What’s more, if Bannan stays, it could tempt a few other long-standing players like Palmer and Windass to stay on board as well.
