Danny Rohl has slammed his Sheffield Wednesday team after they were beaten by Middlesbrough yesterday.
Sheffield Wednesday made it four games without a win as they endured a 2-0 defeat at the Riverside Stadium.
The Owls had previously looked set to claw their way out of the relegation zone with a brilliant run of form, but three defeats in the last four has left them two points from safety.
The Yorkshire outfit only managed 35% possession and six shots compared to their 23, leaving Danny Rohl extremely frustrated by his side’s performance.
Sheffield Wednesday didn’t deliver
Speaking to The Star, the German said: “When you lose, you always look at things you could do differently as a manager, but I think since we arrived here I have always tried to protect my players and have always tried to take responsibility for a defeat.
“This is not just about tactical things, you have to have energy for such a game and such a situation. Everybody should know our situation. It’s not enough to look for excuses, we have to deliver. We didn’t today.”
Danny Rohl has very rarely shown his anger towards his team in public, but Sheffield Wednesday are rapidly running out of time and he can’t protect them forever.
The 34-year-old has already criticised his players for not showing up and it is obvious that he isn’t happy with how many points are being dropped.
The Owls were at their very best prior to defeats to Ipswich and Leeds, so it is clear that they are perfectly capable of winning games.
The missed opportunities have come against sides that they probably could have scraped results against if they had been at their best, but it is dropped points, like against Swansea last week, that could cost them their place in the Championship.
What has gone wrong?
Their ability in front of goal also appears to depend on both Ike Ugbo and Ian Poveda, with the team looking much more threatening with the Colombian in the starting line-up.
While Poveda has only bagged one assist since moving to Hillsborough, Ugbo has certainly felt the benefit of playing alongside him, with the pair both playing an important role in their four consecutive wins before the international break.
It is times like these when Rohl needs Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba to step up and make an impact, but their lack of experience has definitely proven to be a disadvantage.
