Bailey Cadamarteri has been praised despite Sheffield Wednesday falling to another defeat.
Sheffield Wednesday headed into tonight’s FA Cup replay having endured two losses and a draw to Coventry City already this season.
The Owls haven’t won a game since their third round thumping of Cardiff City a month go, so it came as no surprise to see Danny Rohl field a weakened team in order to focus on their upcoming Championship meeting with Birmingham City.
The likes of Gui Siqueira, Reece James and Ashley Fletcher were handed starts against the Sky Blues, while Bailey Cadamarteri also came back into the line-up after a run of three league matches on the bench.
The striker hadn’t scored a goal since the win over QPR before Christmas, but it took him only seven minutes after Kasey Palmer’s opener for Cadamarteri to peg one back.
It was a lovely goal from the youngster, who found himself in the perfect position when a poor clearance from Coventry fell by his feet and he was able to fire it home from a rather difficult angle.
The Star journalist Joe Crann was quick to praise Cadamarteri’s finish and highlighted what he is ‘really good at’.
Taking to X, he wrote: “Really good instinctive finish from Cadamarteri – that’s something he’s really good at.”
Crann also said: “Pleased to see Cadamarteri back in the goals… It’s been a couple of tough months for him after his first flurry in front of goal – that’ll do him the world of good.”
Can Bailey Cadamarteri get back in amongst the goals?
It has been a very tough period for Bailey Cadamarteri since bursting onto the scene, but he was surely never expected to be able to be relied on so heavily in his first season in senior football.
The club were warned to not put too much pressure on him, but it appears that a rest and a period on the bench may have done him some good.
Unfortunately, the forward’s goal didn’t count for anything as Coventry went onto score a further three goals to knock Sheffield Wednesday out of the FA Cup.
But it was still a promising evening for Cadamarteri, who can now push to get his regular spot in the team back, while the Owls can endure no distractions in their bid to stay up.
