Sheffield Wednesday could be about to hand a teenager their first senior start this evening.
Sheffield Wednesday are set to take on Coventry City for the fourth time this season, after playing out a 1-1 draw in last month’s FA Cup clash.
The Owls will travel to the Midlands once again for tonight’s fourth round replay, with the winner set to take on Maidstone United.
After five games without a win in all competitions, Danny Rohl‘s side will be eager for revenge over Coventry, but could also start a weakened team this time round.
Bar a debut for Pierce Charles, Sheffield Wednesday opted for a fairly strong side at Hillsborough last time out. However, we could instead see a number of fringe players given their chance to impress.
The Star have tipped Charles, Momo Diaby and Djeidi Gassama to be the trio that retain their places in the starting line-up, while Gui Siqueira could be the one handed his first start.
Gui Siqueira joined Sheffield Wednesday from QPR’s academy in the summer and made his senior debut during the 4-0 win over Cardiff City in the FA Cup.
The defender also made a cameo appearance in the reverse fixture against Coventry, while he has also been named on the bench on the Championship on five occasions.
The Star journalist Joe Crann wrote: “He’s been with the seniors for some time now having impressed Röhl at youth level, and maybe now is time he gets the nod for his first start after spells on the bench.”
Will Sheffield Wednesday turn to their academy?
Sheffield Wednesday would really benefit from seeing Gui Siqueira impress in the senior team, giving Danny Rohl more options on either side of his defence.
The Owls brought Pol Valentin in during the summer but he is yet to light up the Championship, while Dominic Iorfa has regularly played out of position too.
Siqueira could also join Sam Reed, who is thought to be on the brink of forcing his way into the first team defence too.
Sheffield Wednesday could look to heavily rely on their academy, having struggled to make any signings and also turning to loan signings in recent years.
