David Prutton has made his score prediction ahead of Sheffield Wednesday’s trip to Southampton.
Sheffield Wednesday head to the south coast this weekend in brilliant form, having won three games on the bounce in all competitions.
Danny Rohl was nominated for Championship Manager of the Month for December, with his side beating Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City, QPR and Preston North End in an incredibly enjoyable festive period at Hillsborough.
Despite failing to win the award, The Owls went onto claim another victory against Hull City to take them within three points from safety.
A shock win at St Mary’s Stadium tomorrow could potentially see Sheffield Wednesday leapfrog Huddersfield Town into 21st place, but it will be far from easy.
Southampton currently sit three points from the automatic promotion spots at the opposite end of the table, having gone unbeaten in their last 19 matches in all competitions.
The Saints have also only conceded two goals in their last six games.
David Prutton has predicted ‘excellent’ Southampton claim a home win this weekend, but admits Sheffield Wednesday will be ‘no pushovers’.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Owls and Saints midfielder said: “Southampton suffered a very mini blip against Norwich on New Year’s Day, but got an excellent result in the FA Cup and have the chance to put some real pressure on Ipswich here. A win would, at least for a few hours, take them into second.
But Sheffield Wednesday will be no pushovers. Danny Rohl has turned things around there and they will put up a real fight. It could be close, but I just have to back the Saints to edge it at home.”
Can Sheffield Wednesday cause an upset?
Sheffield Wednesday’s form under Danny Rohl has made fans think anything is possible, and their determination this weekend is likely to be higher than ever as they look to climb out of the relegation zone.
However, defeats to the likes of Norwich and Coventry show that The Owls aren’t quite there yet.
The Yorkshire outfit will deserve huge praise if they do manage to cause an upset against Russell Martin’s side, but it’s certainly going to take a lot for them to not leave empty-handed.
Sheffield Wednesday know that their chances of survival don’t end there though and they still have plenty of time to retain their Championship status. It doesn’t get much easier in the near future though, with clashes against the likes of Coventry and Leicester coming up in the next month.
