Sheffield Wednesday will clash with local rivals Sheffield United in a Championship fixture on Sunday.

It will be the first Steel City derby of the 2024/25 season and the first since the 2018/2019 campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday head into the game as underdogs but have no doubt been boosted by their 2-0 win vs Norwich City in midweek.

Going into the weekend, the Owls are sat 15th in the Championship table but just three points above the relegation zone.

As for Chris Wilder’s men, they are second in the league and could claim top spot this weekend if Sunderland lose to Coventry City.

The Blades are the team to beat right now and would be level on points with the Black Cats if not for their point deduction ahead of 2024/25.

Despite the gulf between the two teams in the table, Sam Parkin shared a tight prediction for Sheffield United vs Sheffield Wednesday.

Danny Rohl compares Steel City derby to Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund

Ahead of the game, Danny Rohl held his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

The Sheffield Wednesday manager discussed a number of topics in the presser, including the importance of the Steel City derby.

It is the first time the German will manage Wednesday against Sheffield United but the 35-year-old already knows a thing or two about what it’s like to take part in such a huge game.

Rohl spent time as Bayern Munich’s assistant manager where he took part in Der Klassiker – the biggest derby in Germany between Bayern and Borussia Dortmund.

And when speaking to the media on Friday, he compared the meeting with Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United to Der Klassiker.

He said: “I know what it means to play a big game. What I don’t know is the atmosphere in the stadium [Bramall Lane]. This is my first one in the city.

“I think every derby is a little different. But of course, when you play in Munich against Dortmund, then there’s also big bond.

“Normally you fight in this game, not just for three points, you fight also for the champion and the league, and you know what it means.

“There is pressure, there is enjoying a lot of the other emotional things around, and of course it’s also about take something from such games.”
