EFL pundit Sam Parkin has now shared his score prediction for the Steel City derby between Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday journey to Bramall Lane on Sunday for the first Steel City derby since 2019, and the first Steel City derby of Danny Rohl’s Owls tenure.

Following Sheffield Wednesday’s 2-0 win against Norwich City in midweek, Rohl now finds his side in 15th place of the Championship table, and 10 points behind the Blades in 2nd.

Chris Wilder, now back at Bramall Lane for a second stint, has overseen three-straight wins ahead of Sunday, coming from behind to beat Bristol City 2-1.

The last three Steel City derbies have ended 0-0, with United boasting the last win; a 4-2 win at Hillsborough in 2017.

Sam Parkin shares his Sheffield United vs Sheffield Wednesday prediction

Speaking on the Championship Check In podcast ahead of the weekend, EFL pundit and Sky Sports commentator Sam Parkin gave his prediction for the weekend’s Steel City derby.

Parkin has predicted a close game, as many others might do too, saying: “Low-scoring I think.

“I think it’s 1-0 Sheffield United, or 1-1, so I’m going to go for the latter. Share of the spoils.”

Dom Howson offers his Steel City derby prediction

Journalist Dom Howson has also weighed in with his prediction for Sunday’s game in S2, and he’s also backed the Owls to take something from the game.

Howson said on Sheffield United against Sheffield Wednesday: “Sheffield United are big favourites to win on Sunday. Without the points deduction, they would be joint top.

“United have got Premier League players and Chris Wilder has managed in Steel City derbies before. But if Sheffield Wednesday execute their game plan well, they can get something.”

When was the last Sheffield Wednesday win in the Steel City derby?

Sheffield Wednesday’s last win over the Blades came way back in 2012 in League One, with Chris O’Grady scoring the winner that day.

And 2009 was the last time that the Owls won at Bramall Lane, though there’s been very few Steel City derbies in the last few years.

In the last decade, there’s only been four meetings between the two with a United win and then three goalless draws in the last three.

Like Parkin and many others expect, it could be a low-scoring game on Sunday, simply because of the magnitude of the game and the intense atmosphere that there’ll be at Bramall Lane.
