Sheffield Wednesday claimed a comfortable and vital win away at Hull City this week, and Danny Rohl has shared his excitement at the progress of one player in particular.
After a disappointing draw against Cardiff City last weekend, and the memory of the Steel City derby defeat still fresh in the minds, Sheffield Wednesday needed a big performance and a positive result against Hull.
Danny Rohl got both from his players on Tuesday night, with a 2-0 win and a dominant performance helping the Owls climb the table.
A number of Sheffield Wednesday players stood out against Hull, and while the attacking line will take most of the plaudits, Rohl has been quick to celebrate one of his defenders, too.

Di’Shon Bernard progress pleases Danny Rohl
Speaking on Owls Heaven after the win over Hull, Rohl was asked about Di’Shon Bernard’s performance, and had nothing but great things to say about the way the young defender has developed this season.
“He has taken a big step now that you see he is fit. At the beginning of the season he arrived very late and wasn’t really ready,” Rohl said.
“But now, I think there is no question, he is an outstanding player. He is the right age to improve, he has started to score, he is very clinical in the box, and I am very happy for him,” he added.
Bernard followed up his goal against Cardiff City last weekend with an impressive clean sheet against Hull in midweek and continues to be a key presence at the back for the Owls this season.

Di’Shon Bernard will have to fight for his place after suspension
Unfortunately, Bernard will miss the game against Derby County at the weekend through suspension, with Dominic Iorfa the likely replacement.
While Bernard’s current form would suggest he will return to the starting lineup without much trouble for the game after that, against Preston North End, Rohl’s propensity to change up the team could give the 24-year-old a hill to climb.

Bernard and Iorfa had partnered one another until recently, but with Yan Valery playing well lately, and Max Lowe emerging as an important member of the defence, nothing is guaranteed for either player.
Of course, these are great problems for Rohl to have, and with his backline finding form, the Sheffield Wednesday manager can instead focus on getting things right in attack.
