Sheffield Wednesday bagged a crucial and stunning win away at Derby County on Sunday evening, with Barry Bannan at the heart of the action once more.
The Sheffield Wednesday captain scored an incredible long-range goal to level the scores with half an hour to go at Pride Park, and was able to dictate the flow of the game from the middle of the park.
Barry Bannan’s moment of brilliance has been the talk of the town since the game, and it set the Owls on their way to a valuable away win.
But, the 35-year-old has made sure to give credit where it’s due, and recognise the influence one of Danny Rohl’s substitutes had on the game.

Nathaniel Chalobah made big impact for Sheffield Wednesday
Speaking to Football Heaven on Twitter/X account after the final whistle, Bannan discussed the effect of Wednesday’s substitutions, and offered praise for Nathaniel Chalobah, who finally made his Owls debut after recovering from injury.
“We brought five subs on, and they all made an impact,” Bannan said. “Nathaniel Chalobah was brilliant. I was tired towards the end and he helped me… it shows you that everyone is ready when they’re called upon, and that’s a big thing for us going forward.”
Chalobah signed on a free transfer after being released by West Brom in the summer. The midfielder got 20 minutes under his belt, and will now be looking to get himself in Rohl’s plans more substantially for the rest of the season.

Danny Rohl can rely on substitutes to change the game
After a pretty dismal first-half showing against Derby, Rohl needed to change things drastically, and the alterations paid dividends.
Indeed, Rohl will now know that he can trust a number of his fringe players to come in and do a job when he needs them. Squad depth is not necessarily a strong point for Wednesday when it comes to actual numbers, but Rohl still has real quality waiting in the wings.
You only have to look at the impact Callum Paterson had on the game on Sunday, and even more so, how Jamal Lowe proved his worth from the bench with the match-winning goal, to see Sheffield Wednesday are a threat even when their starting XI aren’t performing.
It will now be very interesting to see whether any of those impact subs are rewarded with a starting spot against Preston North End at the weekend.
