Sheffield Wednesday suffered a 2-1 defeat away at Birmingham City in the Championship yesterday, with George Byers on the scoresheet for the Owls.

Danny Rohl‘s side remain rooted to the foot of the Championship table and now 10 points adrift after Darren Moore’s Huddersfield Town claimed a point vs Southampton.
The Owls largely dominated the stats yesterday, recording 20 shots with five of them on target, making for an expected goals of 2.09 compared to Birmingham City’s 1.23 (Flashscore).
But Wayne Rooney’s side came out on top in the only stat that mattered and Wednesday’s battle for survival becomes that little bit harder.
Poor individual performances…
Wednesday were once again caught out by individual errors and poor player performances, with summer signing Anthony Musaba failing to impress on the day.
Yorkshire Live rated his performance as a 5/10 with journalist Ricky Charlesworth adding:
“Tough afternoon for the Dutchman. Struggled to make inroads and wasn’t as bright as recent outings. Hooked just after the hour.”
The 22-year-old is a well-liked name among the Wednesday faithful and someone who’s given Wednesday’s attack a bit of bite this season, with one goal and two assists in 14 league appearances so far this season.
Does Musaba hold the key for Sheffield Wednesday?
Sheffield Wednesday are struggling across the pitch. But if they’re to go anywhere this season then they need to be more prolific in attack.
Musaba has already shown this season that he’s one of the players in this side who can really cause opposition defences problems with his pace and forward-thinking, but too often he’s gone a bit missing in games.
Given the lack of quality in the Wednesday attacking ranks this season, Musaba has lofty expectations, and he may well have been a bit over-hyped at the start of the campaign.
It can’t be forgotten that he’s still a very young and very raw player with no prior experience of English football, so coming into a club in such a mess, both on and off the field, is inevitably going to be difficult for the Dutchman.
But his attributes really suit this pressing style of play that Rohl wants to don and yesterday’s performance was perhaps as good as we’ve seen Wednesday do that this season.
