There’s been yet another surprising twist in the saga regarding Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers target Duncan McGuire.
Sheffield Wednesday and Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers are both pushing to sign McGuire, 22, from Orlando City before 11pm tonight.
The Owls though looked like they had fallen out of the race for the one-cap USA international after it was revealed that Blackburn Rovers were pushing on with signings after uncertainty regarding Adam Wharton’s move to Crystal Palace.
But a new update from Alan Nixon has revealed that McGuire would now prefer a move to Hillsborough.
Duncan McGuire hoping for Sheffield Wednesday transfer
Nixon has revealed on his Patreon that McGuire’s move to Blackburn Rovers ‘has turned into a farce’.
He says that McGuire flew in despite insiders telling him not to, due to doubts about the deal, and that McGuire was left waiting in a hotel as Blackburn dealt with other matters.
Nixon says that McGuire now ‘hopes’ that the Owls sign him, but that Sheffield Wednesday would prefer to strike an initial loan agreement with Orlando, rather than fork out the required transfer fee today.
McGuire netted 15 total goals in 37 appearances for Orlando in the 2023 season, with 13 of those in the MLS.

Owls poised for late drama
This McGuire story has taken so many twists and turns now.
It’s impossible to predict what’ll happen next or what the outcome will be, but it’s starting to look as though a move to S6 is very possible.
With McGuire now apparently wanting the move to Sheffield Wednesday, the ball is in their court.
But Nixon’s revelation about the Owls wanting a loan could be decisive here; Sheffield Wednesday clearly have money after submitting previous bids for the player, but after so much back and the forth it seems like the price has gone up.
Danny Rohl will just be praying that someone comes in; if not McGuire than anyone, with the current set of players looking like they might struggle in the fight for survival.
