Sheffield Wednesday youngster Jay Glover is being tipped to leave on loan.
Sheffield Wednesday academy man Glover, 20, made his senior debut for the Owls during a Carabao Cup clash last season, but is yet to make his league debut for the first-team.
And now, it looks like he could be heading out on loan with sixth tier side Spennymoor Town apparently in talks to sign the box-to-box midfielder.
The Star journalist Joe Crann posted on X earlier today:
“Understand that Jay Glover could soon leave #SWFC on loan, with Spennymoor Town currently in talks with the club.”
Who is Jay Glover?
Born in 2003, Glover is an energetic box-to-box midfielder who’s been part of the Owls academy for a number of years now.
He’s made his way through the ranks and has had non-league loan spells in the past with the likes of Gainsborough Trinity and Belper Town.
Glover was awarded his first professional contract with the club at the end of last season.
Is this a good move for the youngster?
At 20 years old, Glover may feel like he should have a bit more Football League experience to his name, if not experience with the Wednesday first-team.
But it’s never easy for these youngsters to breakthrough and these non-league loan spells can often be a good route to teams further up the pyramid.
If he can impress then he might force his way into Danny Rohl’s first-team plans, or earn himself a loan move to a team in League Two or the National League perhaps.
Sheffield Wednesday seem to have a few exciting players in the academy and we could see some coming through to the first-team in the next few months.
