Sheffield Wednesday are ready to throw ‘big money’ at a striker in January.
That’s according to journalist Alan Nixon, who has reported on his Patreon that Dejphon Chansiri will pay ‘top dollar’ to improve the club’s chances of survival.
Sheffield Wednesday currently have six strikers on their books in Lee Gregory, Josh Windass, Mallik Wilks, Michael Smith and Ashley Fletcher, while Bailey Cadamarteri has also been promoted to the senior squad.
However, Wilks has recently picked up a long-term injury and the remaining five only have six goals between them in the Championship this season.
While Cadamarteri has kicked off his campaign in style with his first goal for the club at the weekend, Sheffield Wednesday could still look to bring in a proven goalscorer to help them in the second half of the campaign.
The Owls currently sit bottom of the Championship table, and Alan Nixon has claimed that they could now pay big bucks for a new signing.
He told his Patreon: “Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri is looking to throw big money at a striker on loan next month.
“The controversial chief reckons that paying top dollar for a marksman could save the Owls from the drop.
“The hunt is on to find a scorer for the opening of the window and Wednesday may even pay around £30,000-a-week for the right man.”
Who could Sheffield Wednesday sign next month?
There are actually very few quality strikers available at the moment, and it only gets harder in January.
There are sure to be some forwards available on loan, though Sheffield Wednesday are likely to face a lot of competition for anyone worthy of their money.
One option that the Owls could look at is Kieffer Moore. The Welshmen netted four goals in four games in the Championship prior to Bournemouth’s promotion, while he also bagged 25 goals in 64 games for Cardiff City prior to his move south.
Moore has only made five appearances in the Premier League this season and could look for a move elsewhere, though some clubs may like to sign him permanently instead.
Danny Ings is also in a similar situation at West Ham, having played only 130 minutes in the Premier League this term. However, the forward’s huge £125k-a-week salary would mean Sheffield Wednesday would have to persuade the Irons to pay a majority of his wages.
