The January transfer window at Sheffield Wednesday looked very underwhelming at first. But the Owls’ January arrivals went on to play a huge role in their road to safety.
All of James Beadle, Ike Ugbo, and Ian Poveda played their parts, and the club are keen for all of them tor return this summer, either on permanent or temporary deals.

The McGuire saga was a very memorable one, albeit for the wrong reasons with McGuire going to and from Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday, only to end up back in USA with Orlando City.
Since his failed move to the Championship, McGuire has pressed on with matters in the MLS, having since scored four in nine for Orlando City who currently sit in 14th place of the Eastern Conference.
And now, journalist Alex Miller has revealed on X that Sheffield Wednesday have kept their eye on McGuire since the January transfer window, but that they’ll have to act fast if they want to sign him this summer.
Orlando have offered fresh terms to the 23-year-old USMNT striker who has concrete bids from unnamed teams in Belgium and Germany.

McGuire is clearly someone that Sheffield Wednesday did their research on, and were keen to bring in during the January transfer window.
In the end, McGuire’s failed transfer was cushioned by the seven goals of Ugbo and the attacking presence of Poveda, and if both re-sign this summer then where McGuire fits in at Sheffield Wednesday could be up for debate.
But the fact that Wednesday have been tracking him since suggests that a move could still be on the cards, though whether or not Sheffield Wednesday can afford him remains to be seen.
January bids for McGuire looked like a bit of a panic buy for Sheffield Wednesday and how much these bids from Germany and Belgium stand at is unknown.
Wednesday may not be able to compete in a bidding war, and with improvements to Middlewood, there might not be all that much money for signings this summer, or at least not signings of McGuire’s calibre with interest throughout Europe showing how well-rated he is.
This one doesn’t seem like an overly-likely transfer, but it’s certainly one to keep an eye on.
