Sheffield Wednesday could be beaten to latest transfer target by Championship rivals

Sheffield Wednesday may lose the race to sign one of their latest summer transfer targets.

Sheffield Wednesday now have nine new faces through the doors at Hillsborough this summer, after Nathaniel Chalobah joined the club on a permanent basis.

Former England and Chelsea midfielder Chalobah joins as a free agent, later revealing that former Owls loan man Ike Ugbo gave him a good reference before his move to S6.

Many more are expected to join Sheffield Wednesday this summer as Danny Rohl and owner Dejphon Chansiri oversee what feels like a complete makeover of the club, both on and off the pitch.

Several names continue to be linked, including Ugbo and fellow loan man Ian Poveda, with Mickael Nade a new name on the Owls’ radar.

Reports coming out of France recently revealed that Sheffield Wednesday are rivalling West Brom for the signing of free agent centre-back Nade, who helped St Etienne to promotion from Ligue 2 last season.

But a move for Nade may prove difficult for the Owls.

Sheffield Wednesday behind West Brom in race to sign Mickael Nade

Nade, 25, is now without a club after seeing his Etienne contract come to an end, after he helped steer the club to promotion last time round.

It’s said that Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom are both interested, but now it appears that the Baggies are further ahead in the race for his signature.

French outlet Le Progres says that Nade has received a contract offer from St Etienne but that it doesn’t not fall in line with his current salary expectations.

The same report adds that West Brom spoke with the player’s representatives on Friday, with the Baggies now ‘one step ahead’ in the race to sign Nade.

West Brom want to complete a deal for the Frenchman by the start of next week, it is claimed.

Sheffield Wednesday must be prepared for one thing this summer

It’s been a hugely positive summer transfer window so far for Sheffield Wednesday.

There seems to be nothing in their way as they move further into the window and as they look to bring in yet more transfer targets.

But Rohl and Chansiri must be prepared to suffer setbacks like this possible setback in the race for Nade.

The likes of West Brom may simply have more resources available to sign certain players and so Rohl needs to keep options open.

A new centre-back should certainly be a priority though, with Di’Shon Bernard’s future still up in the air.
